Yard of the Month
Wyndham Yard of the Month
The Yard of the Month for August 2020:
204 Grosvenor Drive
Scott and Valerie Bedsole
The Wyndham Yard-Of-The-Month (YOM) program has been established to recognize the efforts of residents within the Wyndham subdivision who demonstrate a clear and consistent desire to maintain or improve their respective properties above normal expectations. The Wyndham Homeowners Association Board of Directors (WHOA Board of Directors) would like to recognize neighbors who create and maintain beautiful, well-kept yards. This is a great way to improve the value of our homes and make our neighborhood a better place to live.
Program Guidelines
Yard-of-the-Month will be awarded monthly, from April through October.
Properties may not win yard of the month more than once a year (a 12 month period).
Property owners must be in good standing with payment of dues.
The WHOA Board of Directors will determine the winner of the YOM.
Residents may submit recommendations for the YOM, notifying the WHOA Board of Directors by email and indicating the address of the property to be judged. Submissions that do not include a complete address will not be judged.
The WHOA Board of Directors will notify the winner either in person or by email.
With the homeowner’s approval, a front yard photos will be taken and placed on our subdivision’s website.
Judging Criteria
Nominees are judged solely on the total exterior appearance of their property, specifically the front/side yards as viewed from the street. General upkeep of the yard and property is paramount. Factors include the overall appearance, tidiness, and neatness of the front of the property as evidenced by pruned, trimmed, and shaped foliage, edged and defined lawns, borders & flower beds, and a visually appealing facade.
Lawn: Healthy grass with no large bare spots or excessive weeds is necessary. Grass shall be mowed, edged and grass around foundations and fences shall be trimmed. Debris (garbage, pet feces, etc.) shall be picked up and removed. The lawn should have a unified, simple and balanced landscape design. It should be neat and natural.
Landscape and Flower Beds: Beds weeded and edged. Flowers deadheaded and dead plants removed. Trees and shrubs pruned. Natural areas cleaned. Plantings should be in scale with the surroundings.
Walkways and Driveways: Walkways and Driveways shall be clean, including trash containers removed from view. In addition, the area in front of the curb should be free from debris and dirt.
Aesthetics: The overall look of landscaping color and textures should be in harmony with the community. The front entryway should be clean and show the homeowners creativity with special touches such as hanging baskets, pots, yard art, bird feeders, etc.
Summary Note: While lack of strict adherence to the criteria above does not necessarily result in a disqualification, these principles offer general guidelines that are recognized by the Yard of the Month committee. We realize not everyone has a ‘green thumb’; therefore, a homeowner may still win Yard of the Month by making an extensive improvement to the curb appeal of their home. Considerations may be given to homeowners who have made marked improvements, enhancements, re-designs, renovations, or updates to their property (with specific attention to landscaping and/or integrated hardscaping).
